Board of Directors

Horton Plaza Theatres Foundation's Board consists of nine members - five appointed by the San Diego City Council and four appointed by Stockdale.

Suzanne Varco, President

Ms. Varco is the managing partner of Varco & Rosenbaum Environmental Law Group LLP, an environmental law firm based in San Diego. Suzanne has been practicing law for over 30 years and is the past president for Lambda Alpha International, San Diego Chapter. Suzanne holds a B.A. from Whitman College and a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law.

Jennifer Gattey, Vice President

Ms. Jennifer Gattey is the Senior Real Estate Manager with SENTRE, Inc. Jennifer has been in commercial real estate for 20 years and has spent a majority of that time managing properties in Downtown San Diego. She has served on several boards in Downtown including Clean and Safe and Downtown Community Planning Council. Jennifer holds a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.

D. Candis Paule, Secretary

D. Candis Paule, CSA is a casting director for TV/film and is lucky enough to work on dozens of projects every year and cast hundreds of talent. Other credits include directing, producing, she has been seen throughout the country as an award-winning actor, and is a private audition coach. Candis is also proud to serve on the Board of Directors for the SD Performing Arts League and the Leadership Council for the LJ Playhouse in addition to her work with HPTF.

Patrick Stewart, Treasurer

Mr. Stewart is the Executive Director of the San Diego Library Foundation. He has been the Executive Director of Words Alive, Sushi Performance and Visual Arts, and Atlas Performing Arts Center in Washington, D.C. Patrick earned his bachelor’s degree in philosophy from San Diego State University with distinction and graduated from Executive Non-Profit Management Program at Georgetown University’s School of Public Policy in Washington, DC.

Jay Henslee, Director

Jay Henslee is a Vice President and District Manager for U.S. Bank in San Diego where he oversees retail bank operations, marketing and community outreach for several U.S. Bank offices. He was recently named one of the “Top 50 LGBTQ Leaders of Influence,” in San Diego, and as a life-long arts enthusiast, Jay is heavily involved in several non-profit organizations and serves on board of directors for the San Diego Performing Arts League, Diversionary Theatre, City Ballet of San Diego, Rebuilding Together and the San Diego Human Rights Campaign.

Leo Divinsky, Director

Mr. Divinsky joined Stockdale Capital Partners in 2019. He is responsible for asset management with an emphasis on commercial office and mixed-use developments, new acquisitions and existing assets throughout major West Coast markets. He holds a dual Master’s Degree from the University of Southern California in Business Administration and Real Estate Development along with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Cal State University Northridge.

Christie Kong, Director

Ms. Kong is the General Manager of Campus at Horton. Christie brings more than 20 years of operations, asset management, leasing, and project management experience to the role. Previously with Cushman and Wakefield, she brings a well-rounded skillset in Class A office, retail, industrial, medical offices, and life-science management. Christie holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California San Diego and CA Real Estate Broker’s license.

George Montoya, Director

Mr. Montoya is an engineer at Campus at Horton.

Jimmy Parker, Director

Mr. Parker is the Director of Culture for Stockdale Management. Jimmy has been directly involved in the revitalization of downtown San Diego since 1984, beginning with his 22-year Involvement with San Diego Street Scene, Co-producing the widely successful 1998 Super Fest, Founding Member of the Downtown Parking Advisory Board, Board Member San Diego Tourism Authority, and 20-year Commitment to the Gaslamp Quarter District, including 12 years as the Executive Director. Jimmy holds a B.S. in Education from SDSU.

Sandra L. Simmons

Ms. Simmons is the Executive Director of Horton Plaza Theatres Foundation. Sandra moved to Downtown San Diego in early 1992 and has participated extensively in its renaissance and urban rebirth. Sandra’s mission is to further San Diego as a vibrant arts and cultural magnet. Ms. Simmons is a graduate from Oregon State University.
